Sheet piles offer an economical solution

by Dhairya Narayan Jha

Steel sheet piles are long structural sections with interlocks which form a continuous retaining wall. To retain soil or water in most cases, sheet piles have been used for all kinds of temporary and permanent retaining structures being extensively used for quay walls, cofferdams, tunnels, underground parkings, shoring for foundation pits, sewerage and drainage works, micro tunnelling, to name a few. …

What is Die Casting?

By Chris Welsh
Wrenches, toy cars, parts for watches and blenders, the inner workings of many a mechanical marvel; what do they all have in common? They were die cast, a process of “rubber stamping” products in a uniform manner which typically results in high production or identical or nearly identical products. A die cast car, for example, can be made by the dozens or hundreds at a time, producing high volume yields with few, if any, quality control concerns. …

Guniting/Shotcrete

Gunite or Shotcrete refers to concrete produced by the projection of wet sand and cement mixture onto an area, by means of pressure applied through a continuously feeding pressure vessel.

Using guniting, concrete can be applied on irregular, vertical and overhead surfaces. This application is used commonly to protect slopes from erosion, as well as structures of large areas or uneven surfaces.

GUNITING OF A DIAPHRAGM WALL AT BASEMENT CARPARK

Pouring of mixed guniting material (weight
ratio dependent on client’s requirements)
into the guniting pump.
Spraying of guniting material onto the wall
at a pressure of 3 bar.
Our shotcrete team utilises an internal
drainage system by installing Delta-MS
onto the wall, followed by the installation
of BRC mesh onto its surface. Guniting
works is then done on the Delta-MS.

Types of Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile has been used for centuries and offers consumers more options in color, texture, pattern and overall beauty than most other floor covering materials. With new manufacturing techniques today’s ceramic tile designs are virtually indistinguishable from natural marbles, travertines, slates and other stone products. Glazed ceramic and porcelain tiles are great choices for bathrooms, kitchens, foyers, sun rooms and great rooms. …

What is a U-value?

To put it simply, U-Value is the measure of the rate of heat loss through a material. Thus in all aspects of home

design one should strive for the lowest U-Values possible because the lower the U-value – the less heat that is needlessly escaping. So for example single glazed windows have a typical U-value of 5.6 while double glazed windows have a typical U-value of 2.8. …

Different types of glass

Glass should not be thought of as just a functional material to let light into an area; it can also be used to add decorative effect. But it is important to choose the right kind of glass for the right place so the final job is effective, attractive and safe. The wrong type of glass used in the wrong position can be unsatisfactory and present a serious hazard to personnel safety.
